WANDELLA footballer Blake Anderson will sit out the rest of the season after being found guilty of intentionally hitting Macorna player Liam Roberts in the head and breaking his jaw.
Anderson was suspended for six matches when the Golden Rivers Football League Tribunal heard the matter in Swan Hill on Wednesday night.
The tribunal found him guilty of making “unreasonable or unnecessary contact to the face of an opponent”.
The incident was in the vicinity of play during the round nine match between the two sides on July 9.
Macorna Football Club president, Craig Campbell said he believed the penalty was a fair outcome.
“We don’t like to see anyone get rubbed out but at the end of the day our captain has a broken jaw and he will miss more than six weeks,” he said.
“Liam had his jaw broken on both sides and six screws inserted. He’s still only eating soup and he’s lost eight kilograms.”
The tribunal heard evidence from Anderson, Wandella coach Paul Grayling, Roberts and his brother Jonathon.
The incident was not witnessed by umpires, but was reported to the tribunal by the Macorna Football Club.
The two sides meet again at Wandella tomorrow.
