BOORT’S solitary hill was put to use on Sunday when the Northern Rivers District of Scouts Victoria held its annual Billy Cart Derby.

Eighty Cub Scouts and Scouts from all seven district groups took part in the derby, including Boort, Cohuna, Donald, Kerang, Lake Boga, Nyah-Nyah West and Swan Hill.

The derby is always an eagerly awaited fixture on the local Scouting calendar.

Despite the occasional “prang”, Boort Cub Scout leader Garry Schmidt said the day had been enjoyed by all.

“It’s something that all Cubs and Scouts look forward to, absolutely,” he said.
