Junior Bombers prevail

LEITCHVILLE/GUNBOWER’S junior footballers prevailed in a Heathcote District Football Netball League grand final of two halves on Saturday.

The young unbeaten Bombers overcame a sluggish and inaccurate first half to completely dominate Lockington Bamawm United in the second half of the under 17s football final.

The young Cats bounded out of the blocks with three goals in the opening quarter, leaving the Bombers languishing with just four points.

Leitchville/Gunbower started to get more of the ball in the second term, but LBU forced many errors and inaccuracy was the result.

Half-time loomed with the Bombers just one point shy of their opponents.

Bombers coach, Craig Dye instilled belief in his young charges during the main break and the transformation in their game was stark.

The Bombers’ defence held firm and their forwards booted six unanswered goals before the last break, with the Cats just three behinds in this stanza.

The last quarter of the grand final was more of the same, with the minor premiers adding another five goals to the Cats’ single goal.

Bombers’ midfielder, Mitchell McEwen was judged best afield, aided by agile defender Tom Brereton, Brady Hore, who held the defence together, and the pacy Charlie Hancock.

Lachlan Duncan and Blake Dye led with four goals each and Mitchell McEwen scored three.

LBU was best served by an energetic James Gledhill, midfielder Tom Wild, who scored two of his side’s four goals and strong defender Callum Powell.
