Morison’s medal

MURRABIT midfielder, Bryden Morison is this year’s Golden Rivers Football League E.G. Hunt Medallist, announced last night at the league’s best and fairest count.

Morison – who moved the club from Loddon Valley Football Netball League side, Pyramid Hill at the start of the year – polled 18 votes to edge out Hay’s Jackson Ferguson by one vote and Nullawil’s Daniel Watts by two votes.

Justin Rooney made it a double celebration for the Blues, claiming the reserves best and fairest with 22 votes – six more than Wandella’s Benet Gibbons.

Moulamein’s Austin Mertz became the first under 17.5 player in 17 years to win consecutive league best and fairest titles.

Mertz polled 31 votes – 10 more than Macorna’s Alec Maguire – to emulate the feat Murrabit’s Nick Hein achieved in 1998 and 1999.

Hay’s Luke Arandt was adjudged to be the Keith den Houting Rookie of the Year from a field that included Mertz, Austin Hogan (Nullawil), Zac Kelly (Nullawil) and Jai Wright (Moulamein), whilst Quambatook’s Jim Wallis is the 2016 Les Pay Memorial Identity of the Year recipient.

Macorna and Ultima shared the club championship title, with former Hay president, Robert Howard, presented with life membership of the league.
