PATIENTS at one of the district’s major hospitals will benefit from the generosity of the community and a group of dedicated cyclists.
Cohuna District Hospital recently purchased a $76,000 patient monitoring unit for its theatre, funded through donations from the town’s Murray to Moyne team.
Funds from recent efforts helped the hospital upgrade its main patient monitoring system, with the new unit giving doctors and nurses updates on heart rate, oxygen saturation and other key vital signs, as well as ventilate those if needed to.
“Even though we could ventilate patients with the old model, we were not able to get spare parts for it,” the hospital’s nurse unit manager, Karyn Storm said.
“This machine puts us up with the bigger hospitals now.”
Renowned for their endurance and community commitment, the group of cyclists ride annually in the Murray to Moyne charity event from Echuca to Port Fairy, and then hold a trivia night later in the year to raise funds for the hospital.
“Supporting the hospital is why we ride each year,” team member, George Drummond said.
“We are always happy to contribute to the hospital, as it is a key part of our town.”
