Free’s back to coach Saints

A FORMER coach will return to Quambatook to help the Saints return to Golden Rivers Football League finals action.

Tim Free – who led the Saints from 2009 to 2011 – will oversee the club’s seniors campaign for the next two seasons.

It will be the third time Free has been at the club, following on from his first coaching stint that saw the Saints play finals in 2010 after a nine-year absence.

Free also made a brief return to the club in 2014, playing two games.

“I had a couple of years away from the club, spending one season at Woorinen as the chairman of selectors and the senior midfield coach,” Free said.

“I was keen to get back into coaching, and Quambatook was the obvious choice.”

Free replaces Steve Reeves, who oversaw the Saints’ past two seasons.

The club recorded one win in 2016, 12 months after the side lost the grand final to Ultima.

“The competition can change very quickly, as the club has seen in the past three years,” Free said.

Assistant coaches and new recruits will be confirmed in the coming weeks, with Free aiming to build a premiership campaign around the majority of the Saints’ list from last season.
