Family dedicated to serving

THE Waterson name at Cohuna is synonymous with fire-fighting.

Rob Waterson and his three sons have provided a combined 105 years of protection to communities, vital protection to people and property against the scourge of out-of-control fires and untimely accidents.

The family’s status was enhanced during Cohuna Fire Brigade’s presentation dinner with Rob Waterson being recognised with life membership of the Country Fire Authority after attaining 50 years’ service.

Two of his three sons also received long-service medals.

Rob Waterson is a past captain and already a brigade life member.

He is a recipient of the Australian Fire Service Medal, the National Medal, the Gold Star and is a life member of Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria.

CFA Operations Officer John Cutting presented his latest honour.

The attendance of his sons, all CFA career firefighters, was organised as a surprise.

Operations Officer Cutting said that this was a deserved honour. He said that Mr Waterson had worked with CFA District 20 as a training officer and had always shown dedication and commitment to his role as a firefighter and mentor.

“Rob, you have been fantastic,” he said.

Andrew Waterson, who joined the brigade as a junior, was awarded his 25-year service medal. He is now employed as a CFA operations officer with District 2 at Bendigo.

Brother, Luke, a station officer at Shepparton, was awarded a 15-year service medal.

Tom Waterson has already served for 15 years. He is a leading firefighter at Geelong.

Rob Waterson said that he and his wife, Denise, were thrilled that the brigade had organised for their sons to attend the function.

“This is a great honour and I am immensely proud to be part of this brigade and the CFA,” he said.
