Foott to coach premiers

AN experienced Central Murray Football Netball League premiership coach will oversee Golden Rivers Football League side, Murrabit’s senior title defence.

Former Swan Hill coach, Hugh Foott will lead the Blues in 2017, with the appointment to be the past North Melbourne-listed player’s final foray into football management.

The 2011 Swans premiership coach and CMFNL interleague leader will aim to build on a successful 2016 for the Blues, who defeated Ultima by five points in September’s grand final.

“I was looking to have one last crack at coaching, and Murrabit seems like a good family club,” he said.

“It is an exciting time for the club. We’ve retained the majority of the list from this season, will recruit one or two new players and get improvement out of the younger players.”

Foott will also play, adding to a forward line that includes premiership coach, Nathan Henry.

Joining Foott as an on-field inclusion is former Blues premiership coach, Josh Bray, with the defender returning to the club after playing in the past four CMFNL premierships with Kerang.

At least one of the Blues’ premiership players will take to the field elsewhere in 2017, with forward, Leigh McCombe signing on to play with Yarra Junction.
