A TOUCH of Italy is coming to Cohuna for a revamped edition of the town’s annual classical music night.
Previously part of Arts Mildura’s Murray River International Music Festival, the 12th annual event will run independently this year but will still feature world-renowned performers.
Guitarist Massimo Scattolin returns after numerous past visits which all earned great acclaim. He will be joined by soprano Alessandra Cantin.
The concert will be held from 6.45pm on Friday, March 3 at the Cohuna Catholic Church, which is expected to offer spectacular acoustics.
Tickets are $20 and are available now from the Gateway to Gannawarra Centre and the Neighbourhood House.
Organiser Stephen Henty, who heads up a sub-committee of the Cohuna Progress Association, said it would be “a night not to be missed”.
“The idea is to provide world-class entertainment here in Cohuna that would cost people hundreds of dollars to see in Melbourne,” he said.
“We only aim to cover our costs and if there is any profit it will be put toward next year’s event.”
The event received a financial boost on Monday when the ANZ Bank in Cohuna donated $250 to help with running costs.
The cheque presentation was made to Cohuna Secondary College students who will provide pre-show entertainment.
Members of the school ensemble will perform for 45 minutes on the lawn of the Catholic Church while drinks and nibbles are served, before the main show commences at 7.30pm.
People are invited to head to the Bower Tavern for coffee and cake after the one-hour show.
