Rehoming options

RESIDENTS who can no longer care for their pets are encouraged to contact Gannawarra Shire Council to discuss rehousing options.

As part of council’s Domestic Animal Management Plan, dogs and cats not claimed from the pound or those that have been surrendered to council because their owners are no longer able to care for them go into the care of a reputable rehousing organisation.

“Each and every animal that comes through the rehousing organisation is vet checked, desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed, given flea treatments, scanned for ringworm and dogs are tested for parvovirus,” Gannawarra mayor, Cr Brian Gibson said.

Animals that do not require rehabilitation are kept at the shelter whilst awaiting their forever home, whilst those in need of medical attention are placed into approved foster homes with all medical provisions paid for by the rehousing organisation.

When the animal has recovered and is in good health, it will then be placed up for adoption.

Ensuring that the animal will be rehomed into a suitable environment, lifestyle and family is the rehousing organisation’s greatest concern.

For more information or if you have any questions, phone council’s Local Laws department on telephone 5450 9333.
