Summer heat returns

RESIDENTS are advised to keep hydrated and check on elderly neighbours as temperatures are set to surpass 40 degrees for a second consecutive day.

The Department of Health has issued a Heat Health alert for the Mallee today, with the combined average maximum and minimum temperatures above the threshold of 34 degrees.

The mercury was on track yesterday to reach a predicted maximum of 43 degrees, with an overnight minimum of 26 degrees not providing any relief.

The hot weather will continue today, with a maximum of 41 degrees predicted and an overnight low of 26 degrees.

Cloud will increase tomorrow tomorrow as the mercury reaches 40 degrees for a third day in a row, with a morning shower on Sunday to provide some relief.

The hot weather follows a wet start to the week, with 20.8 millimetres of rain falling in Kerang’s Bureau of Meteorlogy’s weather station between Sunday and Tuesday.

More than half of this total was recorded between 9am Sunday and 9am Monday, with Monday’s maximum of 21.7 degrees close to 10 degrees below the long-term mark.
