A TWO-TIME Coleman Medallist will lead Richmond’s contingent on its visit to Kerang on Monday.
Jack Riewoldt, who has kicked 483 goals in a 10-year career with the Tigers, highlights the six-player and six-official contingent to visit the area as part of the Australian Football League’s community camp program.
Joining Riewoldt in the tour of Kerang and Swan Hill will be ruckman Ivan Maric; forward and former Deniliquin player, Sam Lloyd; former Gold Coast and Geelong player, Josh Caddy; second-year player, Mabior Chol; and rookie-listed player, Tyson Stengle.
The players will be accompanied by a group of off-field leaders, including assistant coach, Blake Caracella – who played with Essendon, Brisbane and Collingwood, winning premierships with the Bombers (2000) and Lions (2003).
“I am really pleased with the quality of the players who are coming up to visit,” AFL Central Murray football development manager, Jamie Macri said.
“There’s also a mix of indigenous and multicultural players attending, with Tyson and Mabior. This will help us as we look at developing a multicultural academy locally.”
The Richmond group will be in town during the early afternoon, and will sign autographs outside the town’s post office at 12.45pm before visiting the town’s schools.
The players will also pay a visit to Kerang District Health patients and Glenarm residents before heading to Swan Hill to present jumpers to AFL Central Murray’s junior academy players – which forms part of the Richmond Academy.
“The camp will be an exciting time for all residents, not only Richmond fans, as many people do not have the chance to see AFL players this close,” Macri said.
“The tour will also be just as important for the players, as we will be able to show them exactly what we can offer in the country.”
The visit is Richmond’s first visit to the town since 2014, with the last AFL Community Camp occurring in 2007 when Geelong players and officials were based in the area.
