PANCAKES served with a variety of toppings were a popular choice of food earlier this week as schools and community groups marked Shrove Tuesday.
Celebrations occurred throughout the district as residents marked the final day before Lent and the start of the 40-day countdown to Easter.
One of the largest events occurred at Cohuna, where around 100 people gathered for morning tea and a plateful of pancakes.
The Cohuna Anglican Church-organised celebration saw volunteers spend the morning cooking both sweet and savoury variations of the popular food, with plates also delivered to local businesses.
“Shrove Tuesday is a day of celebration and a day of penance,” event co-ordinator, Marilyn Hornsby said.
“It marks a time of abstinence, giving things up and thinking about others a bit more than what we would normally do.”
Pancakes were also served at the Leitchville Memorial Hall and St Joseph’s Primary School at Kerang.
