Show’s cattle feature

DISTRICT residents are busy readying their entries for the 104th annual Cohuna Show.

The show, hosted by the Cohuna and District Agricultural, Pastoral and Horticultural Society, will be held this Friday from 4pm to late and Saturday from 9.30am at the town’s recreation reserve.

Among the traditional attractions, a Holstein Feature Show will be the highlight, with up to 50 entries expected.

There will also be beef cattle and horse shows on Saturday, a dog show running from Friday to Sunday, and entries of ducks and poultry.

Society president, Graeme Peace said pavilion entries were also expected to be strong, particularly in the school and photography classes.

“We’ve also got a new home brew competition this year, as well as a biggest weed competition,” he said.

“The pavilion is always well supported and there are lots of very talented people out there.”

Other attractions include a fireworks show on Friday night, a show girl competition, and a display of vintage tractors and cars.

Mr Peace said the society also hoped to run an animal nursery, and was calling on locals to offer their pets by contacting him on 0417 341 142.

“We’re hoping for a good crowd this year after numbers were down a bit last year because of the cold and windy weather,” he said.

Show programs are available from the newsagent and post office.

Memberships can be purchased by emailing cohunashow@gmail.com or going to the show office at the recreation reserve. Tickets are also available at the gate.
