Feature goat show

GOATS from 17 stud properties in four States will be on show at Cohuna tomorrow.

The annual Australasian Boer Goat Show has attracted 120 entries of some of the best Boer and Red-coloured meat goats in a prelude to the nation’s biggest goat show in Sydney during Easter.

Cohuna District Agricultural, Pastoral and Horticultural Society will be hosting the show for the third successive year.

Local goat stud owner and Boer Goat Breeders Association of Australia member, Dean Smith said that the society had retained the hosting rights because of its support in the past two years.

“Breeders like coming here because of the relaxed nature,” he said.

Experienced South African judge, Theuns Botha has been engaged for the show.

Mr Smith said that stud goats from Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria will be exhibited at the Cohuna recreation reserve between 9.30am and 4pm.

A barbecue lunch will provide an opportunity for patrons to sample goat meat.

There will also be a display of vintage cars and a number of stalls.
