Bridge works complete

TRAFFIC restrictions around the main bridge that services the Benjeroop are have been removed.

Wells Bridge, which spans the Loddon River, is now fully open following the completion of the road sealing works.

The $1.7 million project involved replacing the single-lane wooden structure with a two-lane concrete bridge with increased capacity to withstand high mass loads.

“Less than 60 days ago the old bridge was still standing, and we are now opening a completely revitalised structure for the benefit of the community,”

Gannawarra Shire Council’s director of infrastructure and development, Geoff Rollinson said.

“There is still some line marking to be undertaken, so council does advise motorists to please continue to drive with care, however there are no longer any road closures required.”

The Federal Government contributed $838,000 from the second round of its Bridges Renewal Program to the project.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Federal Member for Mallee, Andrew Broad for an official opening of this project on April 24 in what will be an opportunity for council and the community to celebrate this occasion,” Gannawarra mayor, Cr Brian Gibson said.
