A WOMAN who has a passion for fashion claimed one of the Kerang Turf Club’s major awards on Saturday.
Bendigo resident, Ella Hurley won the Lady of the Day section during Fashions on the Field, claiming $1750 worth of prizes.
The regular Fashions on the Field entrant stood out in a green and flesh-coloured dress, accompanied by a leather fascinator.
“Green is on trend at the moment, whilst the leather hat ties in with the fact it is autumn,” she said.
“I love fashion in general. Fashions on the Field competitions are also good as it lightens up the races.
“It is a beautiful day and the weather is good, so my mum (Marilyn) and I decide to come to Kerang as it is not too far away.”
The competition, which catered for children, teenagers, men and couples, attracted close to 50 entrants across nine categories.
Murrabit woman, Leah Ryan was judged to have the Hat of the Day, with Kerang woman, Belinda Grayling deemed to have the Shoes of the Day.
The Grayling family also swept the junior section, with siblings, Laela and Harry Grayling winning the Princess and Master of the Track titles.
In other categories, Cohuna teenager, Tahlia Farrant claimed the Most Fashionable Young Racegoer prize; Melbourne resident, Darren Bray was the Best Dressed Gent; Melbourne resident, Nicole Deiulio won the Contemporary Racegoer award; and Bendigo racegoers, Kelly and Michael Carty were the Best Dressed Couple.
The fashions competition was one of many attractions held as part of the club’s annual cup meet.
Children took part in Kelly Sports-organised clinics during the event, with an Easter egg hunt wrapping up proceedings.
Bands and performers kept patrons entertained throughout the afternoon, with former AFL player, Brodie Holland also assisting with proceedings during the day.
It was the first time the former Collingwood and Fremantle player has visited Kerang, having heard about the town through playing suburban football with former local, Luke Livingston.
“Kerang has a really relaxed environment, and the people are really down to earth,” he said.
“It’s good to get out of the big smoke and suck in the good oxygen.”
