THE Golden Rivers Netball League will look to record its first win in the AFL Victoria Community Championships when the side hosts the Kyabram District Football Netball League at Murrabit tomorrow.
The league’s senior side was no match for Kyabram District, going down by 20 goals in a result GRNL interleague co-ordinator, Zoe Ferrier described as one that “the scoreboard did not reflect the game”.
“Obviously Kyabram District was taller than us last year, so we have been working on our defensive pressure, whilst we will look to take advantage of our speed and agility across the court,” she said.
The hosts go into the match with a younger side than the one that took to the court last year, with a final training session held last night.
Meanwhile, the league’s top 17 and Under players will look to produce a second consecutive win against Kyabram District following last year’s efforts.
The 17 and Under side has a new coach in Erica Cummins and a similar squad to last year, with the addition of Maddy Baldwin (Macorna) and Regan Kelly (Nullawil).
“Both girls polled well in last year’s league best and fairest, so it is good to have them on board,” Ferrier said.
“The league is excited to have the opportunity to play alongside the Golden Rivers Football League on our home courts.”

CENTRAL Murray’s senior netballers will be looking to record a second consecutive win against Heathcote District during tomorrow’s AFL Victoria Community Championships.
Central Murray prevailed 44-37 when the teams last meet at Bendigo’s Queen Elizabeth Oval in 2015, with the Swan Hill and Woorinen-dominated side seeking a repeat effort.
Tigers players, Tessa Burton and Maddi Jeans join emergencies Jaya Blandthorn and Olivia Jones in the side to take to the court at 1.45pm.
The Swans have three representatives in the squad – Kelsey McCoy, Madeleine Nalder and Kelly Stanger – with Tyntynder duo, Jaclyn Clark and Teagan Lawry, as well as Nyah-Nyah West United’s Carly-Marie Clark rounding out the team.
