Shire trains blow

GANNAWARRA Shire Council is disappointed in the State Government’s decision not to deliver any additional rail services to the area despite the identified need.

Council was part of a group of local municipalities who conducted a survey of residents which identified the need for upgraded train services and better timetabling.

The Railing Ahead document showed that 78 per cent of respondents don’t currently use the rail service due to the timetabling being unsuitable and that 97 per cent would be more likely to use the rail service if it was improved, with requests including more frequent services, more convenient timetables and faster travel time.

“Council will continue to advocate and lobby to the State Government for improvements to regional rail services and have identified it as a Priority Focus Area within our draft Council Plan, which is currently out for public exhibition,” the mayor, Cr Brian Gibson said.
