CMFNL – Local hopes impacted

ONE of the district’s four Central Murray Football Netball League teams recorded a win at the weekend, with results impacting on the finals chances of two other sides.

Kerang remains one win clear on top of the ladder following a 56-point win against Balranald.

It took three quarters of the match for the five-time defending premiers to shake off the ‘Roos, with the visitors trailing by three points with one term to play.

However, the Blues kicked the only eight goals of the final term to record an 1th win of the season.

Troy Thamm (five goals) and Scott Lockwood (four goals) led the way for the hosts, who are one victory ahead of Woorinen after the Tigers defeated the Mallee Eagles by 38 points.

Going into the match on the back of a nine-match winning streak, the Eagles could not match the Tigers, with Doug Palmer (eight goals) leading the way for the hosts.

The loss – the Eagles’ third of the season – leaves the Lalbert-based team third on the ladder, one win off the Tigers but two victories ahead of Nyah-Nyah West United.

The Demons remain fourth following a 29-point win against the Cohuna Kangas.

In a match that saw the Kangas lead at every break, the Demons kept the hosts goalless in the final term to remain in the top five.

Harrison Keely and Scott Beattie booted three goals each for the Kangas, who are seventh on the ladder, one win behind fifth-placed Swan Hill and sixth-placed Tyntynder.

Koondrook/Barham is level with the Kangas following a 62-point loss to Tyntynder.

Dean Limbach kicked two of the Raiders’ four goals for the game – which doubled as Matthew Dean’s 300th game for the club.
