CMFNL – Tigers damage Raiders’ campaign

KOONDROOK/BARHAM’S two-year run as Central Murray Football Netball League finalists is under threat following a 76-point loss to Woorinen.

Needing a win to remain in touch with the top five, the border side struggled against the premiership challenger, managing one goal in the first half and six majors for the match.

Doug Palmer dominated for the Tigers, kicking seven of the home side’s 19 goals.

Despite kicking the first goal of the match, the Raider trailed by nine points at quarter time and could only watch as the hosts kicked the only seven goals of the second term to open up a 53-point advantage.

Dean Limbach kicked three goals for the Raiders, who are now two wins outside the top five following Tyntynder’s 23-point win against Tooleybuc/Manangatang.

Meanwhile, the Cohuna Kangas are one win outside the top five following a 87-point win against Lake Boga.

Owen Hone kicked four goals for the victors, with Charlie O’Shea and Flynn Appleby chipping in with three goals each, in the visitors’ sixth win of the season.

The 11th-placed Magpies kept pace with the Kangas during the first three quarters before the league’s southernmost side kicked nine unanswered goals in the final term.

Five-time defending premiers, Kerang remain on top of the ladder, with Woorinen second on percentage.

The Mallee Eagles – which also had the bye alongside the Blues, Nyah-Nyah West United and Swan Hill – remains third.
