Street still open for business

KERANG’S central business district remains open for business despite limited traffic movement during the Victoria Square redevelopment project.

Anecdotal evidence from some businesses is that potential customers are being discouraged from shopping during the construction phase.

The centre of the block between Scoresby and Wellington Streets is closed to vehicles during the $750,000 project.

Pedestrian movement is unimpeded and shoppers can cross the street at either end of the barricades.

Limited parking is available at either end of the block and additional off-street parking is available in Albert Street behind Patchell Plaza and in Fitzroy Street.

Victoria Square is being raised to provide improved vehicle traffic management and to include enhanced pedestrian movement, seating, new vegetation and additional disability access parking.

The historic war memorial shelter is currently being renovated off site and will be relocated in front of the post office.
