A PROPOSED 100-megawatt solar power generating facility at Macorna North is the latest district renewable energy project to be revealed.

Details regarding the project was revealed during a site visit by principals of KIG Energy, a joint Thailand-Australian enterprise.

KIG Energy chairman, Ittipong Suwanwong travelled to Australia to inspect the site adjacent to the Kerang-Leitchville Road with Melbourne-based chief executive officer, Greg Fonti and directors, Issarapat Khunprasert and Sarina Le.

Two parcels of adjoining land covering an area of almost 70 hectares owned by Leitchville farmer and former shire councillor Neville Goulding are expected to be developed early next year.

They were accompanied on the site inspection by Gannawarra Shire Council economic development manager, Roger Griffiths, who has been spearheading implementation of council’s renewal energy strategy.

Mr Griffiths said that KIG Energy was keen to develop a second 100 megawatt project in the area.

KIG Energy engineering and construction personnel are due to visit the site next week.

Mr Griffiths said that another firm was negotiating directly with a farmer at Horfield to develop a 30 megawatt faciliti over 120 hectares near an existing electricity sub-station.

These projects bring the number of solar energy project earmarked for construction within the shire, enhancing the shire’s claim to become the “solar capital” of Victoria.
