Support key to success

THE Cohuna Agricultural, Horticultural and Pastoral Society held its annual general meeting in late August and confirmed that the annual Cohuna Show was going ahead for 2018.

Society president Graham Peace, who has served as president for six years, said that it was voted that the 2018 show will be very similar to the prior year, which was a success.

Mr Peace attributed the show’s success to the community spirit of the region.

“People are just happy to turn and up and be involved in the Friday night and catch up with family and friends,” he said.

Despite a general decline in agricultural shows Mr Peace said he is not worried about the future of the Cohuna Show.

“I think our festival will survive. We’d love to see some new young committee members but I think we’re doing enough to keep it going, and we’ll try and keep it going as long as possible,” he said.

Mr Peace attributed the decline in agricultural shows to a lack of people with the time to drive them, but said that as long as everyone continues to show up and support the Cohuna Show it will continue to run.

Next year’s show will include a dog show with up to 800 dogs from the Friday through to Sunday, March 16 to 18, co-ordinated by society member Andrea Otto, horse riding competitions, and various side shows.

Friday, March 16 will be family night with fireworks and a meal provided by the Cohuna Kangas Football Club.
