Kangas’ undefeated season

THE Cohuna Kangas’ B Reserve netballers are the toast of the town after overwhelming Woorinen by 12 goals in Saturday’s grand final.

Going into the match as favourites after recording 16 wins and a draw prior to the decider, the game proved to be a repeat of the second semi-final encounter between both sides.

Kangas coach, Karen Peace said pre-game the competition leaders needed to produce a fast start to win a third consecutive game against the Tigers, and the side did just that.

Led by best on court player, goal defence, Lauren Spence, the Kangas shut down the Tigers’ attacking options to lead 28-17 by three-quarter time.

Although the Tigers outscored the Kangas 11-7 in the final term, the result was already determined.

Goal shooter Kirstin McNamara scored 25 goals and goal attack Sarah Vevers scored nine to ensure the Kangas’ only side competing on grand final day returned south with the silverware.

Other players were wing attack Kristen Hipwell, centre Taitum Mason, wing defence Angela M. McNeil and goal keeper Gabrielle Fitzpatrick, with reserves Tiffany Bartram, Courtney O’Mara and Victoria Gaiter.

A feature of the Kangas’ team was a mixture of experienced players and juniors elevated either into the team or as reserves.
