Police call for fire witnesses

POLICE are still investigating the cause of the fire that badly damaged a students’ locker room and canteen at St Joseph’s Primary School at Kerang earlier this month.

The fire was reported shortly after 10am on Tuesday, September 12.

Fire had taken hold of the section at the south end of the school when the first fire crews arrived.

Firefighters concentrated on preventing the fire spreading into adjacent toilets on the main classrooms wing and into the hall that served as the first school after the Sisters of Good Samaritan established the school in 1912.

Detective Senior Constable Brian Taylor said that investigations are continuing.

“It will be a painstaking process,” he said.

Police have canvassed adjoining residents for closed circuit television footage and are seeking information from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area.

Anyone with information can call Kerang police station on 5452 1955, criminal investigation detectives on 5036 1600 or they can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
