Various talents on show

QUAMBATOOK and district residents proudly showcased their artistic skills at the weekend as part of an event that is growing in popularity.

The town’s memorial hall hosted the second annual Art, Craft, Photography and Produce Expo, building on the success of last year’s event.

Due to the popularity of the inaugural event, a number of new categories – including baked goods, jams and preserves, fleece and grain – were added to the program, joining the various photography and art sections.

“We decided to link this year’s event categories in with what different agricultural society shows do and showcase what the local area offers,” organising committee member, Merril Kelly said.

“The event also enables people to come together.”

As with last year’s event, the photography section gained the largest number of entries, with categories covering Feathers, Fur and Fins; Travel Snaps; Crops and Things With Big Wheels; Us at Work and Play; All Things Weather; and Quintessentially Quambatook.

“Most people have mobile phones with cameras nowadays, whilst many local people are interested in photography,” Mrs Kelly said.

A number of regional experts in each field acted as judges for the numerous categories, with visitors to the hall on Friday and Saturday asked to select a piece to help determine the People’s Choice winner.

The two-day exhibition linked in with the town’s annual garage sale, which occurred on Saturday.

“We wanted to put on something extra for people to come and look at what Quambatook has to offer,” Mrs Kelly said.
