School fire investigation finished

INVESTIGATIONS into a fire at St Joseph’s Primary School at Kerang earlier this month have wrapped up, with a child under the age of 10 ordered to attend a Country Fire Authority Juvenile Fire Awareness and Intervention Program.

The fire, which occurred on September 12, badly damaged a students’ locker room and canteen on the Burgoyne Street end of the school.

Firefighters concentrated on preventing the fire spreading into adjacent toilets on the main classrooms wing and into the hall that served as the first school after the Sisters of Good Samaritan established the school in 1912.

Police had canvassed adjoining residents for closed circuit television footage and sought information from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area.
