Time to roll

THE 2017/18 Northern District Bowls Division pennant season begins throughout the area tomorrow, with teams looking to emulate the achievements of Cohuna and Leitchville.

Cohuna won its first Opie-Woods Shield in five seasons in late February, defeating Kerang in the 2016/17 Division One grand final.

The creekside team will open its season by hosting local rivals, Cohuna Golf, with Kerang travelling to Barham Sports.

The other opening round midweek pennant Division One match will see 2015/16 premiers, Barham Services host Pyramid Hill.

Meanwhile, Division Two premiers, Leitchville will begin its campaign for a third consecutive title by hosting Barham Services in a rematch of the 2016/17 grand final.

Other Division Two matches see Kerang play Barham Sports and Cohuna host Cohuna Golf, with Pyramid Hill having the bye.

Saturday showcase

KERANG’S goal of becoming only the second Northern District Bowls Division Saturday Pennant team to win four consecutive Division One pennant titles begins on Saturday at home against Cohuna.

The three-time premiers defeated Cohuna Golf in the 2016/17 decider, with the Golf team – which has appeared in 11 of the past 12 grand finals – to host Wakool.

Local rivals, Pyramid Hill and Leitchville will meet at the division’s southernmost venue, with Kerang Golf to host Barham Services and Barham Sports to play Gunbower.

In Division Two action, a rematch between last season’s premiers, Cohuna and grand finalists, Cohuna Golf Navy will be the highlight of the opening of the season, with the clash between town rivals, Barham Services and Barham Sports to be another major match during the first day of competition.

Meanwhile, Kerang White will begin its Division Three title defence at home against Cohuna, with grand finalists, Kerang Blue to travel to Barham Sports.
