THE Kerang ‘Happy Hour’ Relay for Life team is retiring from its extraordinary 11 years of raising funds for cancer research and welfare.
One of its final fund-raising efforts is tonight when it stages its last ever Ladies Pamper Night at the Kerang Bowling Club between 7pm and 10pm.
Tickets for $15 can be pre-purchased from Kerang South Primary School or Husk Street and Surf. Table groups can be reserved or single tickets purchased.
The evening features a high tea-styled supper, manicures, foot massages, shoulder and neck massages and a fashion parade presented by local businesses Classy You and The Little Shoe Shop on Scoresby.
The Ladies Pamper Night and the Red Lily Walk are the group’s major fundraisers, and organisers are hoping that as many people as possible will support the event tonight.
Anyone who pre-purchases a ticket automatically goes into the draw for a Rusty/Globe gift pack donated by Husk Street and Surf valued at almost $200.
The Kerang group will walk its last relay at Moama on the weekend of October 21 and 22. Its members have all been affected by cancer in many ways, including being survivors, carers and friends.
In the past 10 years, the team has been the highest fund-raiser team for six years and has been awarded the best decorated site for the last five years. Fund-raisers have included the Ladies Pamper Night, the Red Lily Walk, trivia nights, collecting at the football, door knocking, raffles, catering, cake stalls and Pink Days.
The Kerang team was second highest fund-raiser last year with $9270. The team has had two research awards named after it for raising more than $5000 in the past few years.
Its fundraising tally so far – not including this year – is $104,600.
Team representative, Lyn Veall said that the team wanted to thank all of its hard working members and the whole Kerang and district community for supporting fund-raisers throughout this time, including the numerous businesses who have donated goods and services each year.
“We are so fortunate to live in a community where there is such generosity of spirit,” she said.
