Saints’ new coach

A TWO-TIME Golden Rivers Football League premiership player will aim to return Quambatook to finals action in 2018.

The Saints confirmed this week that former Wakool ruckman, Adam Pollock will coach the club, replacing Tim Free.

It will be Pollock’s third stint in the GRFL, following two campaigns with the Hawks.

The Leitchville resident played in the Hawks’ 2006 premiership win, before coaching the club to its last title in 2013.

Since then, Pollock has played with Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League clubs Campbells Creek (2014), Harcourt (2015), Dunolly (2016) and Avoca (2017), coaching Dunolly and Avoca in the past two seasons.

Leigh Wild will coach the Saints’ reserves team.

Helmers re-appointed

DEAN Helmers will coach the Mallee Eagles for a second consecutive season.

Helmers – who joined the club this year following an extensive playing and coaching career in Melbourne’s northwestern suburbs – guided the Eagles to a Central Murray Football Netball League semi-final finish in 2017.

The club was the only team to defeat eventual premiers, Kerang this year.

“Dean brought a new dynamic to the club this year with his structures and strategies, which was very exciting,” Eagles chairman, Geoff Kendell said.

“The players had enjoyed the new training regime and this is why all had excelled at the club this year, including the reserves with their premiership.”
