Run for Christmas cheer

CHRISTMAS is a wonderful time of year and the annual Gannawarra Memorial Toy Run aims to make it even more so for district residents.

Running out of the Anglican Parish of Cohuna Mens’ Group, the toy run will spend the next month fund-raising and collecting toys to distribute to those who could use a cheer-up at Christmas, according to Anglican [parish priest, Fr Simon Robinson.

Launching the toy collection efforts during a men’s breakfast, Father Robinson said that local businesses were getting involved with collection stations distributed around local towns.

On November 25, the toys will be collected by participants on motorbikes and in cars, who will drive from Leitchville to Kerang, from Kerang to Barham, and finish up in Cohuna’s Garden Park.

The group raised $10,000 last year and distributed over 300 Christmas hampers across the area.

The group focused on those dairy farmers who may have been hit hard after the farmgate price of milk dropped below production costs.

Group member Les Atwater said that the group and the project were both great ways to get men together, regardless of denomination.

Those wishing to get involved or make a donation could contact Fr Robinson on 5450 4142 at the Anglican parish of Cohuna and Kerang.
