GARDENING enthusiasts from throughout the district took the opportunity to explore some of the area’s hidden treasures on Sunday.
Ideal weather conditions helped boost numbers for the second annual St Mary’s Cohuna’s Parents and Friends Committee Garden Walk.
Five gardens – located throughout Cohuna, Leitchville and surrounds – were open for four hours, enabling a record number to learn more about which species thrive in the area and what people can do to add to their gardens.
The event followed on from last year’s edition, which was hampered by wet weather.
“It was perfect weather for the event,” joint event co-ordinator, Brooke Brown said.
“It did not rain, so that was a bonus.”
Organisers chose the five gardens due to their different themes and what attractions they would provide.
“It was quite an honour to be asked to take part,” Cohuna resident, Kerri Newcombe said.
“You think you have a nice garden, but when people come in to your garden and comment on how good it is, it is a pleasant surprise.”
Funds raised through admission and plant sales will help the school build a children’s play area featuring sensory activities.
