THE sky was the limit for the winner of the feature trotters’ cup at Gunbower on Sunday.
Sky Petite won the Cohuna Car Sales Bill Poxon Memorial Gunbower Trotters Cup in a course record time in front of an appreciative crowd.
The six-year-old bay mare’s victory was the first major race win for driver Ryan Duffy.
The horse is trained by Kialla-based Dean Pattison for his father, Neil Pattison.
Ten-year-old brown gelding, Aintthatrightmacca was second and Daquiri was third.
The late Bill Poxon was club secretary for 36 years. The cup was presented by his daughters, Sue Shaw and Julie Hogan.
The other feature event, the Gunbower Family Hotel Gunbower Pacing Cup was won by Brocks Territory, driven by the experienced Chris Alford.
The five-year-old gelding is owned by Andrew German and trained at Lancefield by Rodney Petroff.
Sky Petite beat a field of 13 in a mobile start on a track not adversely affected by midweek rain and which escaped a further drenching despite nearby thunderstorms on Saturday.
Second in the pacing cup was New Zealand-bred bay gelding, Our Jimmie and third was Spiritrider.
Harness Racing Victoria chairman, Dale Monteith and Trotting Clubs Victoria chairman, Paul James were guests at the meeting and were full of praise for the conduct of the meeting and the club’s facilities.
Gunbower Harness Racing Club presiden,t Roger Brereton said that recent rain enhanced the track, but did not affect the surrounds.
“We are delighted with the crowd and the standard of racing,” he said.
