VISITORS to Leitchville’s walking track will be able to admire artwork by Leitchville Primary School students.
The school’s 15 pupils recently spent time working with Aboriginal elder and Anglican Church leader, Rev. Robyn Davis in developing the piece that focuses on the town’s past, present and future.
Students spent the afternoon completing the work, located at the rear of the Leitchville Memorial Hall public toilet block.
“Those working on the walking track want to place seats nearby, which look onto the toilet block, and they want something nice for those sitting down to look at,” Rev. Davis said.
Titled Linking Leitchville Past, Present and Future, the students played a key role in completing the work.
Pupils spent the morning learning about the principles of Aboriginal Art, before incorporating these elements into the mural.
“The indigenous drawings link to Leitchville’s past, whilst the Gunbower Creek, Murray River, Kow Swam and Mount Hope are the town’s present,” Rev. Davis said.
Areas where the students have placed their handprints link into the future section of the work, with efforts to occur to encourage their parents and grandparents to add their mark to the mural.
“Hopefully in years down the track the children will return to show their children the work,” Rev. Davis said.
“The kids have done a fantastic job.”
