FOUR out of a possible close to 50 sporting encounters scheduled for Saturday did not occur due to Friday night and Saturday morning’s rainfall.
Lawn bowls matches scheduled at Barham and Wakool were the only games able to proceed on Saturday, with the majority of competitions enforcing their wet weather rules.
Barham Service’s Northern District Bowls Division Saturday pennant Division One encounter against Pyramid Hill, as well as Wakool’s game against Gunbower, were the only two top-flight bowls matches to occur.
Division Three games at Barham Sports, which hosted Barham Services Blue, and Wakool – which played Kerang Blue – went ahead, whilst all Division Two encounters were called off.
Meanwhile, the Northern District Cricket Association made the decision on Friday to abandon the second weekend of its round four junior matches, with all senior encounters called off on Saturday morning.
Teams that were meant to compete all received three points, benefiting teams that are battling for finals places, but impacting the chances of Nondies (A Grade) and Barham/Koondrook (B Grade) hosting first semi-finals in March.
It was a similar situation for both the Loddon Valley Tennis Association and Northern District Lawn Tennis Association.
None of the LVTA’s eight scheduled matches – four in the senior ranks and four junior ties – did not occur, whilst sodden courts and limited access to venues forced the cancellation of nine open-age NDLTA matches and seven junior games.
The rain also impacted Ski Racing Victoria’s State Titles, which were to occur at Lake Charm during the weekend.
Event organisers decided on Thursday to postpone the meet to January 20 and 21.
