THE weekend’s wet weather did not stop Cohuna and district residents celebrating the Christmas spirit.
More than 250 people spent Sunday night singing many popular and traditional Christmas carols as part of the Cohuna and District Progress Association’s Deck the Halls event.
Organisers – which included local schools, churches and community organisations – held the event at the Cohuna Memorial Hall for a second consecutive year, opting not to hold the evening at its traditional Garden Park setting.
“Fortunately we made the decision a long time ago to have the carols at the hall as it is too hard to move venues in one day,” the event’s master of ceremonies, Glenn Hall said.
Celebrations began with the arrival of Santa Claus in a vintage vehicle, before he handed out presents to all children in attendance.
Attention then turned to the carols part of the night, which included performances from Cohuna’s two primary schools, Cohuna Secondary College and the debut appearance of the Cohuna and District Pre-school.
