A SECOND period of multiple days of 40-plus degree temperatures are predicted later this week.
The district experienced four consecutive days of 40-plus degree temperatures between last Thursday and Sunday, with the mercury peaking at 44.7 degrees on Saturday – the area’s hottest day since February 10, 2017.
The extreme heat, which was 13 degrees above average, forced the cancellation of all senior sports matches, with the Ski Racing Victoria titles, held at Lake Charm, the only event to proceed.
The last time the Bureau of Meteorology recorded four or more days where 40-plus degree temperatures was in January 2014, with the town already recording five days above 40 degrees so far in 2018 – the same number that occurred in 2017.
Temperatures will drop to 37 degrees today, before rising above 40 degrees again from Thursday to Sunday.
