A LATE afternoon storm has left a trail of destruction through farming properties near Kerang last Thursday.
Gale-force winds damaged buildings, uplifted a rain water tank and tore trees out by their roots in a two-kilometre strip of farmland in the Normanville area.
Some historic derelict buildings on Allan and Nola Robinson’s property, about 13 kilometres south-west of the town adjacent to the Kerang-Quambatook Road were significantly damaged and trees uprooted.
Mrs Robinson said that one huge tree was completely torn out of the ground, furniture was blown across a verandah and a child’s swing damaged by the storm.
Neighbour Geoff Kendell said that his wife, Fiona, could hear the force of “a massive amount of rain” on their home’s tiled roof and then the ferocity of the wind that followed.
“The wind came ripping through. The force behind it was awesome,” he said.
“The tree in Robbo’s yard, you couldn’t fit your arms around the trunk, it was just ripped out by the roots. The power was amazing.”
More than 20 millimetres of rain fell within half an hour.
Mr Kendell said yesterday that landline telephone services had not yet been restored.
