Movies on the big, big screen

THE movies returned to the big grain silos screen at Quambatook on Saturday night – and so did the crowds.

The small Mallee town has certainly found a niche in the entertainment arena with its Silo Cinema screenings.

The latest offering was the Australian movie Muriel’s Wedding, preceded by a comedy wedding and song-and-dance act performed by Melbourne-based drag artists.

More than 200 people set up camp chairs in the outdoor setting to watch the movie screened on the side of the silos.

Many patrons dressed in character, with a mixture of “Muriels”, grooms, bridesmaids and supporters of Muriel’s political-aspirant father.
