PANCAKES, fund-raising, and a fashion show – that’s how Cohuna and Leitchville celebrated Shrove Tuesday this year.
At the Anglican Parish of Cohuna, nearly 90 community members gathered for a good cause – raising funds for the Anglican Board of Mission, which contributes to development projects in developing nations, and of course to eat pancakes.
The parish also held a fashion show with clothing from the Cohuna Anglican Opportunity Shop, with ladies modelling clothes available for purchase.
Mission president Marilyn Hornsby said that the previous year’s event saw $2336.90 raised.
“That goes to Mission. The previous year it went to adult literacy, water sanitation and hygiene, and disaster preparation,” she said.
“Hygiene means fewer sick people and fewer sick children. Ten large bags of clothing were taken to Darwin for Millingimbi Island Reserve … [it’s] just [good] to know what the church and Cohuna are doing for the world,” she said.
Meanwhile in Leitchville, community members organised pancake deliveries throughout the town for those working and unable to attend the morning tea.
Those who were able to attend were treated to a beautiful Shrove Tuesday morning tea.
Community member and event organiser Dawn Billman said it was a chance for the community to get to know each other.
“We have a chit-chat and a cuppa. We [also] delivered to all of the shops – the pub and the butchers, Lipps, and the post office,” she said.
