Venue change

THE Swan Hill Showgrounds will host this year’s AFL Victoria Community Championship match between the Central Murray and Sunraysia leagues to ensure all junior footballers and netballers have the chance to compete.

The Central Murray Football Netball League board decided last week to reverse its decision to hold the May 19 match at the Cohuna Recreation Reserve after Sunraysia Football Netball League management raised concerns regarding travel times for junior matches scheduled to play on the day.

The CMFNL had initially decided for the encounter between the 17th and 18th-ranked competitions in Victoria to occur at the home of the Cohuna Kangas Football Netball Club, but with both competitions planning for under 16 and under 18 representative football sides, as well as 13 and under, 15 and under and 17 and under netball squads, to play on the same day as their senior counterparts, Sunraysia representatives would face a three and a half hour drive to the venue.

Last week’s decision means visiting players will travel around one hour less to play in the curtain raisers to the senior football and netball encounters.
