FOUR roadside fires that occurred over a distance of nearly seven kilometres near Kerang on Wednesday are being treated as suspicious.
Firefighters were called to a fire beside the Murray Valley Highway on the western side of Kerang adjacent to the Loddon River bridges shortly after 1.40pm.
The fire was burning in lignum and grass on the northern side of the highway.
Two fire brigade tanker crews responded, then one was diverted to a report of fires on either side of the railway crossing five kilometres away on the eastern side of the town.
Firefighters in a field command vehicle then investigated the sighting of smoke a further two kilometres away and located another roadside fire.
Fire crews from Sandhill Lake, Lake Charm and Cohuna were called in to assist while police controlled traffic.
A Country Fire Authority fire investigator also attended in an effort to determine the source of each fire.
