Final set

COHUNA will go into tomorrow’s Northern District Lawn Tennis Association Division One grand final against Koondrook as favourites after not losing to the border side during the 2017-18 season.

The competition’s top two teams will meet at Barham from 1pm, with the teams both making the final match of the season once in the past two seasons.

Cohuna last competed in the grand final in March 2016 in a loss to Kerang, with Koondrook also going down to the three-time defending premiers 12 months ago.

Cohuna holds a 3-0 record against Koondrook this season, withe the closest result being an 11-game victory when the teams last met on March 10.

• THE Division Two Red grand final between minor premiers, Kerang Greens and Gunbower Blue could be the match of the day.

It is Kerang Greens’ second successive grand final appearance, with the side going into the game on the back of a 39-game win against their premiership counterparts earlier this month.

However, the victory was the first time the side has defeated Gunbower Blue this season, with the competition’s southernmost side recording a three-game win in round one and a 31-game result prior to Christmas.

• DIVISION Two Yellow sides, Koondrook and Wakool face a similar challenge to their Division Two Red counterparts, with the minor premiers to go into the grand final on the back of a recent loss to their challenger.

Koondrook ended the home and away season on top of the ladder and defeated Wakool in their two meetings prior to the mid-season break.

However, the association’s northernmost side recorded a 12-game victory when the sides last met in round 12.

• KERANG will look to emulate the efforts of their Kerang Greens teammates 12 months ago in claiming the Junior Division One title.

The team goes into the grand final against third-placed Leitchville as favourites after winning both meetings between the sides this season.

On both occasions Kerang has claimed close to 50 games, and if this occurs again tomorrow, the club will add another junior title to its collection.

• BARHAM Blue will represent the host club’s hopes of a title tomorrow, with the Junior Division Two team to take on Koondrook in the grand final.

The New South Wales-based side led the way during the home and away season, winning both encounters against their twin-town counterparts by at least 15 games.
