$3.25m tobacco find

POLICE and Australian Taxation Office personnel seized and destroyed more than 3500 kilograms of tobacco plants growing at a Tragowel Road last Thursday.

Officers from Cohuna, Kerang, Mildura and Swan Hill joined ATO representative to execute a search warrant on the Coad Road property after receiving a tip-off from a member of the public that either a crop of cannabis or tobacco was growing on-site.

The search found a crop approximately 7.085 acres in size, with an estimated excise value of $3.25 million.

The plants were well established, with many growing up to six feet in height.

Investigations in the matter are continuing, with both agencies asking people who have any information regarding the crop to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
