THE district’s four Central Murray Football Netball League sides all recorded wins at the weekend.
Six-time defending premiers, Kerang took to the field for the first time this season following the previous weekend’s abandoned game against Balranald, defeating Tooleybuc/Manangatang by 61 points.
Led by a four-goal effort from Luke Cotchett and a best on ground performance from Troy Davis, the Blues kept the Saints goalless in the second and final quarters to celebrate unfurling the club’s 2016 premiership flag in style.
Koondrook/Barham also recorded its first win of the season, with a seven-goal effort from Cameron Arnold setting up a 38-point win against Nyah-Nyah West United.
The Raiders’ six-goal to two second term helped determine the result, whilst the efforts of Jacob Barrington and Clay Davis also assisted the hosts’ chances.
Meanwhile, the Cohuna Kangas remain undefeated following a 22-point win against Balranald.
In what proved to be a tense encounter at the Cohuna Recreation Reserve, little separated the teams during the game, with Kangas coach, Scott Beattie’s four-goal effort a highlight.
The Kangas and the Mallee Eagles occupy the top two spots on the ladder, with the Eagles’ 53-point win against Woorinen helping the Lalbert-based side claim the top rung of the competition.
Saad Saad starred for the Eagles, booting nine goals as the hosts outscored their opponents in each quarter.
