KERANG’S Bus Stop Recycle Shop has reopened after closing for a fortnight in response to a COVID-19 scare.
An anonymous letter received by committee president Carol Barton on August 26 claimed the writer had recently visited the shop and subsequently fell sick and tested positive to the virus.
Ms Barton said she now believes the letter was a hoax.
“Everyone went and had their tests, which came back COVID-free,” she said.
“We still kept the shop closed the following week as a precaution.”
She said health authorities were happy with the way the threat had been managed.
“We just shut up and had the place steam-cleaned and we took the information [from the visitor book] down to police.
“The health authorities said we’d done everything right.”
The successful social enterprise, which recently relocated from Nolan St to Bendigo Rd, has been busy since reopening on Tuesday.
“Everyone’s been incredibly supportive of us,” Ms Barton said.
“It’s just amazing how well it’s going.”
The shop’s opening hours are Tuesday to Friday 10am-4pm, and Saturday 10am-1pm, with the back shed now open daily 10am to 1pm.
