Bowls notes – 24/9

Cohuna Golf Bowls

Our ladies had their last hitout on Tuesday, before teams commence this week, with Rhonda, Anne, Val and Shirley taking all before them in a sound display.

A reminder that the teams competition will be a 1pm start at this stage. Please notify your skipper if you can’t attend.

55-and-over saw Barham host the day on excellent greens, despite the challenges presented by the wind.

Three sides won through, with Ken Hamill’s Lake Boga side snaring the poultry once again with an outstanding six in the yard stick.

Up North to Racecourse this Thursday.

Our members are notified that all draws for club events except the minor singles are on the main notice board.

To make this a realistic competition, a few more entries are required to make the minor singles a goer, so add your names on the board please.

Also on the board is the absentee list for coming pennant games. Names added, where necessary, in advance makes the selectors task a whole lot easier.

Numbers are tight, so advance notice will be appreciated.

We will be holding part of the Northern Carnival at Golf, in November, and encourage members of all local clubs to support this great event.

Players come from all over Victoria, but include very few from our own Association.

Entry forms are on the board for both pairs and fours.

Onto the weekend’s events, and on Sunday we hosted our town rivals Cohuna in a friendly hitout over 21 ends.

We had a fair few more players than the visitors, so well done to the two Golf fours that played each other.

John Keely skipped our best rink, defeating Bob Maud 25-14, whilst Brian Bowles, Gordon Anderson, Bill and Allison Ainger won our trophies after a 28-11 win over Jarred Hammond.

Pennant round one commences October 5.

Many thanks to Pat Pollock for the catering and Cheryle for helping with last minute numbers.

Also on Sunday we sent a side over to Kerang Golf for their Star Tournament.

Despite their best efforts they never made it to the winner’s rostrum, but had an enjoyable, albeit cold, day on the greens.

Leitchville

Thanks to Gunbower Bowls Club and to our members taking part in the Practice Match and Opening Day, which was a good roll up of 40 Bowlers taking part. Winners of the raffles were Peter Griffiths, Wally Fehring and Ivan Dye.

Next Committee Meeting is Tuesday October 8 at 7.30pm.

The Greens are now available for Friday afternoon for bowls practise from 3pm.

I would just like all members to check out the following bowls fixture happenings for the upcoming weeks, as The NDBD events are now being played etc.
