Wednesday night bowls commences this week

Cohuna

The club have asked me can I help out as a scribe, but ensure there is nothing controversial.

Well I may not be as good as Peter Bibby, but someone has to do it.

Division 1 played Gunbower with 2 rinks up and a draw to win by 15 shots.

However, Gunbower with new bowlers were level at smoko.

Brian Bowles played Phil Davis and they were level on the last end, with Phil missing his drive and Brian got up be 3 shots.

Jeff Reade played W Spoons and all contributed to the 15-shot win.

Peter Vaderstand played against John Dickins and ended up with a draw.

Division 2 had 3 rinks up, winning by 70 shots against Barham Sports

Gordon Anderson and his Talented Crew won by 33 shots against B Berry. One end they got a 7, with Gordon missing out with his bowl?

His Partner in Crime, Frank Bagg, played against G Cook and Frank won by 25 shots.

B Main, N Bath and Noel Yandle played well.

Wally Henry was against Ian Fasham and took 13 ends to hit the front, but ended up winning by 12shots.

However, one end was disrupted by a big whirly wind that came across the green and moved bowls.

Hats were seen going over the tennis courts and Jeff Reade thought he lost his cloth, but when he said it’s his Collingwood one, well no one cared.

Dallas Mathers’ socks went to Gordon Anderson, for best player.

The social scene welcomed Ian Denver and Sue Burgess to the club, plus 24 from the group in the caravan club. Its a good night to get together and enjoy a meal for just $5. The Jackpot is worth $60.

See you Friday, Bomber

Cohuna Golf

Our ladies enjoyed another pleasant Tuesday with their teams competition, Yvonne, Denise and Mary being best performed on the day.

They are looking forward to their first games of midweek pennant this week after week one byes.

55-and-over players made the trip across to Boort on Thursday, but no-one from the club could emulate Frank Trezise and team, who took home the poultry the week prior at Barham Sports after a two team shoot-out.

Neville Henry’s Cohuna side were the Boort winners, as we prepare for the Lake Boga trip this week.

Members are reminded of the need for local sides to enter the Northern Carnival, pairs, fours or both, as entries close on October 23.

Without grass-roots support this event will sadly go the way of so many other tournaments in the area.

Forms are on our noticeboards.

There’ll be a few missing from pennant ranks this Saturday, as Mick Carmody takes an intrepid band on the long haul to Lightning Ridge for their Black Opal tournament.

Nearly a full week of bowls along with a host of social events make for a memorable experience.

Our pennant games included a bye to the Whites, which helped fill out other sides as numbers are fully stretched.

Well done to those who also helped Pyramid out.

The ones played Leitchville, with games featuring unusual scorelines to say the least.

Bluey plus eleven did best, Jarred came from a 7-18 score to somehow win 23-22 while John, in complete reverse, was forced to a 24 all draw after leading 24-7.

One suggestion was that the netball streaker completely wrecked the concentration of our younger players.

Alongside was our Navy team, who had a tight tussle all day.

Gary Easton got home by three, Greg Mathers had a draw and Kerry Ballard lost by seven, seeing the home side win by a narrow margin.

Bower vouchers went to Gary Easton, Garry Farrant, Gavan Free and Alan Dunne.

Next week our two division 2 sides meet in what should be an interesting and well-contested battle.

The threes hosted Kerang, and after a see-sawing sort of day, came up trumps by some 11 shots.

Yvonne and team had a huge win, Anne went down, with Peter losing ground in the second half to be down a fair few.

Points early in the year are always handy and hopefully, despite absences, a team will be fielded this week.

Wednesday night bowls commences this week with an introductory night for both established and new bowlers.

Names in by 7.15pm, or an early arrival will help organisers no end.
