Division 1

DIVISION 1 got badly beaten by Kerang on Saturday.

The only comment available was that skipper Jeff Reade at smoko was not in his usual jovial mood as he thought he ran over a black cat.Division 2

Division 2 went to Kerang.

They faced a zephyr and got up by four shots overall.

However, we were two rinks down but were covered by President Manners.

Frank Bagg was brought down to earth by Ed Fenton.

At one stage on the 20th end they were 18 shots down but fought back to win the last five ends.

Wally Henery had a big battle with Ken Strachan, going down by two shots.

Also winning the last end to help the team, Dianne Manners kept the Cohuna flag flying by winning 14 shots against Lindsay Hein, with Cohuna home by four shots.

This rink was in control all day, winning 15 ends.

Division 3 also met Kerang, and with two rinks up they covered J. Maddock, who went down by a lot.

M. Mooney, with three females in the side and the shy one in John Crichton, won by 16 shots against H. McBain, with Marg Bath and Lois Bradley helping out.

Poor John!

Nathan McGann, playing with his father plus Bill Ainger and the tomato grower, Norm Bath, won by 13 shots against Merv Tilley.

They also won the last three ends to help the team over the line.

J. Maddock drew the short straw with Steve Hancock at his brilliant best.

Three times he took our shot bowl to pick up a lazy five shots each time.

Some of Steve’s shots were his bread and butter shots with perfect pace and green and just drawing to the kitty went down by 25 shots.

However, again Cohuna won the last three ends.

Now to the social scene – the Poker Jackpot is now worth $80 and about 30 supporters joined in, keeping bar manager John up until late.

Ron Walton won the meat voucher and the white beetroot.

Next week a big crowd will be in the club house.

Maybe we should have another meat tray.

Guilty BomberWe still need names for singles and pairs entries for bowls singles championships.Cohuna Golf

THE Tuesday ladies comp continues to roll along well, with the best performed this week being Liz Keely, Irene Trezise and Barb Evans.

Also in the news were Yvonne, Rhonda and Gwen, who won the prestigious Peg Coad event at Kerang Golf during the week, a great effort.

Wednesday nighters had a great time, with the gang from the solar farm turning out to brighten our evening.

After lots of chiacking and laughter the winners were Dallas Mathers, Yvonne Eckhardt and Kristy Cramer.

Everyone is looking forward to a repeat dose this Wednesday, when Max Simmonds is the duty side.

Well done also to our new organisers on the board for a tricky task well handled.

On the club front, all our first round singles games had to be completed by this week, leaving just eight to work towards this year’s championship.

Good news – because of our participation in Bowls October month the club was awarded a bluetooth speaker for the clubhouse.

One of our non-techno members thought it was something to do with a dental care speech.

Mick’s expedition to Lightning Ridge was most enjoyable by all accounts, with another very original shirt to display.

They were the southernmost entrants, with a Bundaberg side the furthest north.

Certainly a tournament with wide appeal.

During the week we also had a side over to Rich River for the Five A Side Championships.

They managed to finish with fourth prize money, more than enough to cover expenses, and keep our club under notice in that part of the world.

WITH excessive heat ruling out Thursday’s 55 and over, we move to Cohuna this week (note the change).

Let’s hope for better luck there, although advanced forecasts aren’t encouraging.

Pennant games were down, with two Byes, but good to see members putting their hands up to help boost numbers in other clubs.

The Whites and Divvy Three played at home, and both recorded solid wins, in possibly the worst conditions imaginable.

The Threes hosted Pyramid Hill, who fielded a side with help from us.

They were no match, however, for our heroes, who won each rink by large margins.

The Bower meal vouchers went to Lyall Baker, Gwen Campbell, Alan Westblade and Deanne Ladson, with a 23 shot margin.

Tucker won by 17, and Anne by 13 in a solid team effort.

The Whites faced tougher opposition in the Barham Services side, who are all paranoid that should they play well, they’ll be demoted to Division One.

Eddie Davern and Ken Ashton would be having a sleepless couple of nights.

However, with Yvonne winning by 12 after a mid-game scare, and Bruce by four, the shots were enough to cover Peter’s loss by six, due mainly to the aforementioned Barham pair.

Finally a game away from home next week – over to Pyramid Hill.
